Describing Motion: Velocity

Chapter 3: Describing Motion Velocity

One-Dimensional Kinematics

Kinematics motion with out regard for how it is caused.

One-dimensional straight line

Position, Distance, and Displacement

Position separation from reference point

Distance total length of travel

Displacement change in position, d

            d = d2 d1

Average Speed and Velocity

Average Speed = distance/elapsed time

Average Velocity = displacement/elapsed time

            vav = d/t = (d2 d1)/(t2 t1)

Velocity = Slope of position-time graph
